  1. I currently have a catalog of roughly 40,000 images.
I can't find any documentation on the upgrade process. Besides backing up my catalog,
is there anything special I should do before upgrading?
Is the upgrade process pretty straight forward?

    Thanks,

  2. I just talked with Seth Resnick who teaches the d-65 workshops and is a lightroom guru.
He suggests upgrading to 2.0 and building a new catalog from scratch by saving all the metadata to the files from your 1.4 catalog and reimporting everything into the new 2.0 catalog. I have 4 years organized into about 160 folders comprised of roughly 40,000 images. Reimporting all of that would take a lot of time. I'm not against it I'm just wondering what the benefit would be? I haven't heard back from him yet. You guys have any idea if this is worth the time it would take?

    Thanks!

  3. I don't know why you would go through all that effort of building a new catalog. The upgrade process is very smooth and I was surprised that it didn't take longer than it did. LR2 makes a copy of the catalog when it does this so your new LR2 catalog is called My Catalog-2.lrcat.

After the upgrade was done I deleted the old catalog and took the "-2" out of the catalog and preview names.

The whole process was really simple and easy.

I would be scared to death of syncing metadata and reimporting. Yikes...

  4. For the record I also have a little over 40,000 images in my catalog. All went great.
