I work for a forensic laboratory and we use Photshop CS and CS2 on Windows XP. When we work with images for comparative examination we must track any changes done to the image. We set the Preferences for the History Log to "Detailed Metadata". We have found that on occasion, for no apparent reason, the Preference resets and the History Log is no longer being tracked in the metadata. Is this a common problem and is there a fix? Does CS3 have this problem?

  2. I haven't heard of this problem. I can check with a few other sources. Is there a chance that someone in the office has reset the preferences on the machine? (by holding down ctrl + alt + shift on start)

The preferences have all been set on numerous machines in one Section and tracking the history log as detailed metadata is our SOP. Each user must log on with their own password and the computer locks after about 7 minutes of inactivity. No one else outside our Section should be using or even has a need to use any of our terminals. Unfortunately, we often discover that it has reset when we are checking something and don't really know how long it had been reset. We try to encourage users to confirm the preference before each session, but you know how that goes.

I've posted this query on other forums and have heard back from several other agencies using Photoshop that they have the same problem.
